DIY Leather Camera Strap

So you know when I said that the leather I bought was going to be seeing a lot on this blog? Here is yet another DIY involving leather. I have thought about making a camera strap before but I was always scared I wouldn’t be able to make it strong enough to hold my camera. But then I realized I had two camera straps because about a year ago I was running up the stairs carrying my camera (yes I know, very irresponsible), and a smoothie in the other hand and I stumbled and hit the lens right on the corner of a stair and promptly broke the automatic focusing capabilities. Sigh…… A very depressing day in the house of the Zimmermans. Luckily we still had a warranty so I took into Best Buy and had them take it in to either fix or replace it. When we first took it in they had us take the charger, battery, and camera strap off of it to keep while they had it fixed and then they replaced it so we ended up with two camera straps, batteries, and chargers. Very convenient for us if I may say so. So then It hit me that I could just cover one of the camera straps with fabric or in this case, leather and it would be perfectly safe! Mwahahaha! The thrill of discovering something that I had totally overlooked in various fits of stupidity!

You have no idea how hard it is to get a picture of a camera strap! I wanted to be able to get a picture of the strap with the camera attached but then we only have the one nice camera so that very much put me in a bind. What a pain….

You will need: 

Scissors

Studs

Pen

Leather or some other fabric

To cut out my leather pattern I just laid the camera strap onto the leather leaving a quarter of an inch on either side of the strap, marked it with a pen, and then cut it out. Do this one more time so you have two pieces. 

It should look something like this. It’s very important that you leave a little bit on either side.

I got these studs off of an old belt and just put them in a straight line with an inch between each one.

I thought about just gluing them to the leather but then I was afraid they would intermittently pop off at random times.

I did have a little bit of trouble keeping them in a straight line but I was just like eh, people will just think “Well… I suppose thats artistic.”

The finished project! Thus ensues the problem of finding a way to take a good picture of it. 

I love the my new camera strap! Plus, it is completely stable and strong!
