All the jars in our spice cupboard are labeled with permanent marker which works well for a while but after a couple of rides through the dishwasher the permanent marker becomes a little bit less permanent. Not a good deal, after all you wouldn’t want your dried mustard to get mixed up with your ground ginger. So I decided to take care of this problem. Thus, the solution! I painted chalkboard paint on the jars as labels. Of course it helps that it was a fun project and the mason jars now look fabulous!
You will need :
Chalk board paint ( I got mine at the local hardware store )
Mason Jar and lid
Wax Paper
Scotch tape
Label Stencil (I just found a free one online)
Using your label, cut the shape you want out of wax paper to make a stencil, then tape it onto your jar.
Just like so.
Then simply paint it. Super easy.
The jars probably took about 15 minutes to dry between coats. They might take a couple coats. When they have dried make sure to condition it by coating the label in chalk then washing it off. Then you can go ahead and draw or write whatever you want on the labels.
I would like to do this to all the jars in the sewing room that hold our supplies. Maybe it would make that room a little bit more organized! Feel free to leave any comments or questions.
