Hey guys! This morning I was on pinterest and found a post which had a list of different ways to make wall art using canvas. I loved pretty much all of the ideas but the problem was I didn’t have any canvas. Plus, some canvas can be pretty expensive if you want to make a set of wall art. So I came up with a solution, I scrounged up a couple of old shoeboxes and covered the lids with duckloth. It was perfect! It looked pretty much exactly like a regular canvas leaving me able to make this cute little set of wall art. The problem with using this DIY rather than just buying a regular canvas is that shoeboxes don’t usually get very big so your wall art is going to come out rather small, also the duckcloth is not going to absorb liquid the same way as canvas. Although really if you wanted it to be more dramatic you could take a huge blank white wall and put maybe 15 of these small painted canvases and that would probably look pretty cute. I’m thinking when we finally get around to finishing our attic and converting it into a huge sewing room we’ll have plenty of wall space so maybe we can try that idea out then.
This DIY took about an hour to finish the whole thing but to actually make the canvas it only took about 10 minutes for each one. All you’ll need to make the canvas is duckcloth and the shoebox lid of your choice. Also, if you wanted a really really big canvas you could build a light frame out of wood and cover that with duckcloth and secure it to the frame using staples. But you would have to really really not want to pay the extra bucks to go that far just for a big canvas!

To make the canvas lay the shoebox lid on the duckcloth and trace the outline of the lid onto the fabric adding two inches so the fabric will cover the edge of the lid and cut the traced outline out. When you glue the fabric to the lid make sure you don’t put any glue on the top of the lid but only on the undersides of the lid.
To paint these I used black acrylic paint and gold metallic paint. I can’t really tell you how I painted it because I really was just kind of going at it and didn’t use any method!
These are some wall art ideas I really really love so maybe just maybe you’ll be seeing some similar projects in the coming weeks
Thanks for reading and be sure to leave comments telling me what you think!
