Hey Guys! We’ve put together this post to tell you about something that we’ve become involved in. Love146 Is an organization committed to ending child sex slavery and exploitation. Trafficking in persons is modern day slavery. It is estimated that trafficking generates about $32 billion annually. This makes trafficking the second most lucrative crime in the world. The majority of female victims are trafficked into the commercial sex trade. Two children are sold every minute. Over 100,000 U.S. children are forcefully engaged in prostitution or pornography each year. And that’s just the U.S., and we have it easier than pretty much every other country. Here’s a story that has become all too common in recent times, Serey was an ordinary girl. The sixth of seven children, she was getting ready for her fourth year of high schooling. Her life was changed when a woman came to her home and offered that Serey work as a salesgirl in a big department store in Manila. Serey’s parents agreed to let her work. Upon arriving in Manila, instead of taking her to a department store, the woman took her to a bar. The bar was a front for a brothel. Serey spent months in this dark reality. No two girls in the brothel were from the same province, in order to prevent an escape. She was not allowed to go outside. After a month in the brothel, she managed to get a hold of a cell phone and relayed a message to her family. Her father and brother rushed to Manila to look for her, but they were unable to find her. Stories like this, and worst than this one are very common. If you would like to learn more about the issue you can go to the website Love146.org. You will find stories and videos to help you better understand this issue. To get to the point, we have signed up for the love146 fundraising opportunity. It is called Tread on Trafficking. Tread on Trafficking is a fundraiser between May 1st and June 30th where treaders ask sponsors to support them for a number of miles or hours they spend running, swimming, biking or working out, with all the money raised going directly to Love146. We’re asking for $3 dollars per mile that we go. We’ll most likely be running. The minimum that love146 has set for each team to raise is $500. Our goal is to run two miles a day five days a week. I hope we can do it! The way it works is that our team has our own web page, the link will be below. If you go to our page, you can give right there. You can just give a set amount once, or you can be an official sponsor and give for every mile we run,or you can just give to however many miles you would like. We would really appreciate any support we can get in this. If you’re up for a challenge you can also join our team! You could either get your own sponsors or if you don’t have enough time, you could just help us out by adding a few extra miles to ours. If you’re interested, just contact us. You can also be an awesome help to us by simply telling people you know about this organization. If you have any questions about this or about the web page please contact us. We appreciate all the help we can get to stamp out trafficking!
