I found this sweater at Goodwill for $3.99 it’s a pretty cute sweater and I actually considered just keeping it but yellow is not my color and I hate turtlenecks. For this project you will need:
- An old sweater
- Corresponding thread
- Sewing Machine or Serger
The first step is to cut the sleeves off your sweater. You will want to make sure you cut in a straight line. If you want your warmers long then cut as close to the top as possible (this is what I did) if you want them shorter cut further down the sleeve.
Next you will need to hem the top of your leg warmer. My sweater was very thick so I only folded it over once. If you have a thinner sweater or one that you’re worried about unraveling I would suggest folding it over twice.
I folded mine over about ½” and zigzagged all the way around the top. If you have a serger that would work even better. Repeat on the other sleeve.
This is what they should look like when you’re all done sewing.
You can add buttons or a flower pin to the top if you wish. The flower pin I used is the one we sell in our Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/listing/85409814/rose-felt-pin
Pictured here with the second pair of leg warmers I made. I will show you how to make them tomorrow. Enjoy!!
